Ben Ducklyn
7 × 10 inches original watercolor on archival paper
By Timothy Colomer
Every nation has its legends.
Some crossed icy rivers.
Some wrote remarkable documents.
And some... just happened to be ducks.
Meet Ben Ducklyn, a feathered tribute to one of America's most famous Founding Fathers.
Dressed in an eighteenth-century Continental Army uniform, complete with a patriotic tricorn hat and round spectacles, Ben proudly wears the spirit of curiosity, resilience, and a healthy appreciation for bold ideas.
While history remembers Benjamin Franklin for his inventions, diplomacy, and wit, this playful interpretation imagines what might have happened if one of America's greatest thinkers had waddled instead of walked.
After all, great discoveries often begin with someone willing to ask a different question.
Sometimes that question is:
"What if Benjamin Franklin had feathers?"
History might never answer it.
But it certainly makes for a memorable portrait.
Which historical figure do you think deserves the Duck & Compass Society treatment next?
